Has anyone noticed that no matter how much you clean and look after your house something will go wrong! Some tiles have just fallen off the roof again, we're having bad weather in the UK although I haven't caught the worst of it luckily. Even so it's very very annoying as you can imagine!

Anyway rant over!

How they work

Garage door extension springs work by extending to lift the door up, which means that you don't have to do all the lifting. They are extremely important if you want to use your garage regularly and it is vital that they are working correctly so that you can use your garage easily and safely. Garage door springs are quite often one of the most important parts of the whole garage door, if they aren't working correctly then you may find that not much else is! This is why you need to make sure that you regularly check your springs or get a professional to do it for you.

Garage Spring Safety

Another reason why it is so important to make sure that your garage door spring is that correct is that extension springs are under high pressure and hence if they snap they can be a danger to anyone that is in the garage at the time. If you use your garage regularly then every time you open at the spring will put under incredible force, and for that reason you need to make sure it correctly so that the springs can take a load of the garage door evenly rather than one taking more than the other which is bad because it causes one to break quicker than the other.

Replacing extension springs

If you're thinking of replacing your garage door springs, then you need to make sure that you even know what you are doing get a professional in to do it for you. The problem with fitting it yourself is that if you don't know how to do it, one of the springs won't be aligned quickly and hence you will have the other spring working harder. This reduces the lifespan of the spring significantly and will mean that it will break quicker. Replacing garage door springs isn't always easy and if you aren't up to the job it's much better to pay extra to someone who is.

Types of garage door springs

There are two types of garage door springs, although there may be more the aren't quite as popular. The first is the extension springs which is what this blog is about. The second is the torsion spring. Both of these work in similar ways although you will have to find out exactly which one your garages use. Of course if you don't know how to fit a garage door spring then you should never attempt to do it yourself as it can be quite dangerous. You don't want to hurt yourself by fitting the garage spring incorrectly, and you also don't want to reduce the lifetime of your garage. You can find a guide to garage door springs.

What are garage door extension springs?

if your garage door isn't working as you need it to, and you don't have the money to fully replace it, then you'll need to replace one of the parts. For example one of the most common things that can go wrong with a garage door is the extension springs breaking. Garage door extension springs are at a lot of attention at all times which means that they are likely to break relatively quickly compare to the rest of the door. If you don't know how to check your garage door springs, you should always get in a professional to look at it for you so that you know you are getting the job done correctly and that they will last for a long time.
